Terms of Service — Handturned

The Service

Handturned is a lead generation and matchmaking service that connects individuals seeking custom, hand-turned wood memorial urns with skilled American woodturners. By submitting a form on our website, texting Handturned, or interacting with our advertisements, you agree to these Terms of Service.

Handturned does not manufacture urns. We do not hold inventory or manage fulfillment. Our service is the introduction — connecting you with a vetted craftsperson who will handle your commission directly.

How It Works

The Handturned process works as follows:

You complete an inquiry form or quiz on our website describing your pet and your preferences
Handturned matches you with a vetted woodturner in our network
Your matched woodturner contacts you directly within 72 hours
The woodturner provides a hand-drawn sketch for your approval before any work begins
Upon sketch approval, the woodturner collects a 50% deposit directly from you
The woodturner completes your urn and ships it to you; the remaining balance is due before shipment

No payment to Handturned. All payments for your urn are made directly to your woodturner. Handturned does not collect payment for urn commissions. If you are contacted and asked to pay Handturned directly for an urn, do not proceed and contact us immediately.

Pricing

Urn pricing starts at $500 and may vary depending on size, wood species, style complexity, and other project-specific details. Final pricing is determined and communicated by your matched woodturner before any work or deposit is requested.

Handturned makes no guarantee of a specific final price beyond the starting rate communicated at the time of your inquiry.

Woodturner Responsibility

Once introduced, all aspects of your commission — including communication, sketch approval, deposit collection, production, quality, timeline, and shipping — are the sole responsibility of your matched woodturner. Handturned is not a party to the commission agreement between you and your woodturner.

Handturned makes reasonable efforts to vet woodturners in its network but does not guarantee the quality, timeline, or outcome of any specific commission. Disputes regarding urn quality, delivery, or payment should be directed to your woodturner in the first instance.

If a matched woodturner fails to contact you within 72 hours, please notify Handturned and we will attempt to reassign your lead to another available woodturner.

SMS Program Terms

Handturned offers order status updates, maker match notifications, and promotional communications via SMS.

You can cancel SMS messages at any time. Text STOP to opt out. After you send STOP, you will receive one final confirmation and no further messages from Handturned.

Message and data rates may apply. Message frequency varies.

Handturned does not sell, share, or transfer your SMS opt-in consent or phone number to any third party for their own marketing purposes.

Supported opt-out keywords STOP, STOPALL, UNSUBSCRIBE, CANCEL, END, QUIT — any of these will remove you from all Handturned SMS lists immediately.

SMS Communications

By submitting your contact information to Handturned — through a web form, a Meta lead ad, or by texting us directly — and by checking the applicable consent box, you consent to receive text messages from Handturned.

Handturned sends two types of SMS messages:

Transactional messages: Maker match confirmations, order status updates, and other messages directly related to a service you have requested or initiated.
Promotional messages: Availability updates, seasonal reminders, and re-engagement messages.

Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out at any time. Reply HELP for assistance. See our Privacy Policy for full details on how your information is used.

No Guarantee of Availability

Submitting an inquiry form does not guarantee that a woodturner will be available to take your commission. Network capacity varies. In the event no woodturner is immediately available, Handturned will notify you and place you on a waitlist.

Limitation of Liability

Handturned's liability for any claim arising from its matching service is limited to the fee, if any, paid directly to Handturned in connection with that inquiry. Handturned is not liable for the acts or omissions of any woodturner in its network, nor for incidental, consequential, or indirect damages.

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Maryland. Any disputes shall be resolved in the courts of Montgomery County, Maryland.
